Abstract
Single bit errors prevail in dual decision feedback equalizers (DDFEs). Based on this characteristic, a new reduced-state sequence estimator (RSSE) is proposed to improve the performance of the DDFE. Simulation results show that the bit-error rate (BER) of new RSSE is appreciably better than that of either DDFE or DFE, and though still inferior to that of MLSE, but the number of states of new RSSE increases linearly with channel memory length
