Abstract
In ATM networks, rate-based traffic control will be used specifically to manage ABR (available bit rate) service. Through the study of rate-based and credit-based traffic control, we propose a rate-based traffic control in a credit style technique, which is the dynamic rate adjusting scheme based on counting mechanism of credit control. It controls the source rate by setting up a high/low threshold of the buffer and modulating the increase/decrease factor of the rate. Simulation results show that this kind of scheme can not give a guarantee of buffer utilization, but also can enhance the performance in cell loss, etc
