Abstract
An automatic voltage regulator (AVR) of a synchronous generator based on the pole assignment self-tuning regulator is proposed. The poles of the closed-loop transfer function of the system and the poles of the controller are analytically discussed for stable performance. The response of the AVR system with the saturation characteristics is simulated for a step change of the reference. The validity of the proposed control method is experimentally clarified by using a microprocessor-based control system. The system is shown to become stable in the three-pole assignment. However, the system is not stable in the case of one- or two-pole assignment
