  • Abstract
The authors provide details of the system architecture and algorithm of an image processing system applied to traffic measurement. This traffic measurement system is based on an image processing technique for video pictures. This development has achieved good cost-performance systems due to falling costs for image processing hardware with powerful computation. The authors have developed some operational systems for practical use, such as a traffic flow measurement system, an automatic stopped vehicle detection system, an automatic license plate reader for measurement of travel time, and an illegal parking monitoring system. The customized hardware and algorithm which are suitable for each system are described
