Abstract :
Acquiring and reconstructing images from a positron emission tomograph (PET) system usually involves several independent processing tasks. These tasks range from the actual acquisition of the analog detector signals to the final image reconstruction which may also consider additional information from other imaging modalities. To compensate the inevitable variations arising from the analog detector frontend due to environment conditions or manufacturing tolerances, calibration procedures are a critical part of this process. Depending on the overall system stability, some parameters may even require repeated calibration during the everyday use of a PET system. Therefore, the calibration procedures usually have to provide meaningful results within minimum computing time.
