Abstract :
In order to improve the automatic refining control in a BOF (basic oxygen furnace), the authors have developed a novel system applying AI (artificial intelligence) technology. This development is characterized by the application of an expert system. The authors applied the expert system to the prediction and evaluation of the blowing condition, such as quality of slag formation and possibility of slopping. However, quantification or making mathematical models for these purposes are difficult. By means of the control system, the authors have established a one-man operation of blowing, and operations have been greatly improved
