Abstract
The paper studies through Matlab simulations the effect of the line of sight component (LOS) and cross polarization discrimination (XPD) on the ergodic capacity of a MIMO system. Both cases were studied for different MIMO configurations. Random Rayleigh channel fading was considered in the simulation to represent near realistic cases, and channel state information (CSI) is assumed known at the transmitter. The results showed that the LOS degraded the capacity of MIMO systems. The degradation in capacity can be reduced by using more transmitters. Regarding the XPD the simulations shows that it enhances the MIMO capacity at high SNR.
