Abstract :
The effects of field voltage, field current, power factor, and VAr controllers on a paper mill power system are discussed. The author reviews synchronous motor response to load and field current changes with respect to power factor and VAr flow. He examines what happens to the power system during load swings. with the various field controllers applied. It is shown that the VAr controller is the controller of choice for constantly changing loads. A method is advanced to help control the total mill VAr flow using VAr controllers and communications equipment currently available.<>
