A new type of organic and inorganic cation exchange membranes was prepared based on poly(vinylidene fluoride) modified by SiO2 nano-sized particles via blending process in order to obtain better membranes permselectivity of ions in electrolyte with high concentration and better membranes antifouling performance. The membrane transport parameters were investigated in terms of membrane water content, ion exchange capacity (IEC) and membrane conductivity, permselectivity. The results that water uptake and contact angle of these membranes indicated that these membranes have better hydrophilic than PVDF membranes. It was found that membranes conductivity and permselectivity increased with increasing silica content. With 0.28% of SiO2 content and at 0.055mol/L of mean electrolyte solution, permselectivity of Na+ was 0.96. These cation exchange membranes with better membrane conductivity, ion permselectivity may be used for application in water treatment process and fuel cell.
