Treatment of domestic sewage by PAC (powdered activated carbon) -SBR process was investigated. Results showed that removal rate of TN and TP and the activated sludge settling characteristics were improved by addition of powdered activated carbon. In the case that optimal dosage of PAC, 400 mg/L, removal rate of COD,TN and TP were 94.90, 67.70% and 96.55% respectively, and SVI of activated sludge was 45.2, better than those of SBR process. Mechanism of enhancement in PAC SBR process was concluded. PAC-SBR system was operated for one month, the effluent met the Grade 1 Class B of "Discharge standard of pollutants for municipal wastewater treatment plant" (GB18918-2002). PAC-SBR process was steady and efficient.
