Abstract
This paper proposed a charge equalization circuit for the series-connected battery banks with serial charging scheme. The charge equalization is based on buck-boost conversion, and hence is non-dissipative. The sub-circuit associated with each battery acts as a current diverter to transfer the excessive charging current from the satiated batteries to the hungry ones. By the dynamic redistribution of charging energy, charge equalization can be achieved more quickly and efficiently. The applicability of this approach is confirmed by experiments.
