Abstract :
A satellite tracking feed system is described in which only the TE/sub 11/ and TM/sub 01/ modes of the circularly polarized signal are used. The tracking feed was designed to operate between 20.2 and 21.2 GHz. The essential component of the feed consists of a conventional smooth circular waveguide, whose diameter is sufficiently large enough to support both modes. It has a rectangular port orthogonal to the circular waveguide, and a resonant ring, acting as a mode filter which separates the modes. The TM/sub 01/ mode is then coupled from the circular waveguide by a coaxial probe, which is matched to a 50 Omega coaxial connector using a tapered transition. The feed is designed to be used with either a corrugated horn or a dual-mode horn.<>
