  • Abstract
Federal and state ministries have been supporting for a long time market penetration and R&D projects for renewable energies. As for photovoltaics, the federal 100 000 Roof Program started in 1999 and the Renewable Energy Law (EEG) which started in 2000 and guarantees a selling prize of 0.51 €/kWh for PV power fed into the grid have lead to strong demands for photovoltaic products and scale-ups of production facilities in Germany. Funding of R&D Projects both by federal and state ministries continue roughly on the same scale as in the past and support improvements of well established PV technologies as well as innovative approaches promising sizeable cost reductions. Examples of selected projects in four R&D areas funded or supported by the Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) will be shortly presented.
