Abstract
The paper lays out the fundamental requirements for complex real-time applications. Then, it gives an overview of the KOS (Knowledge-based Operating System) real-time executive designed to meet these requirements. KOS is the first software combining modern real-time programming and artificial intelligence. Finally, the paper proposes a definition of real-time before concluding by describing the `Copilote Electronique´ project under development in cooperation with Dassault Aviation
