  • Abstract
A three year research program on the automated handling of garments for pressing is presented. To bound the research problem environment, the automatic pressing of trousers has been chosen, and only the initial pressing of the crease into the legs is considered. The functional requirements for this problem are identified. In the first year the most important steps have been independently demonstrated. The second year focuses on the integration of these steps into a completely automated system for pressing trouser legs. The third year provides the transfer of the technology to the vendor community through the active involvement of the researchers in the adaptation of these techniques to the realizations chosen by the vendors.<>
