Abstract
The authors analyzed classified advertisements from the Sunday employment section of the major newspapers of seventeen large metropolitan cities. The purpose was to investigate the employment opportunities in technical communications for entry, middle, and top level positions, and to classify them by industry, duties and responsibilities, skill and educational requirements, work experience, and compensation. The goals of this research were to indicate the skills necessary for advancement or career entry, identify standards for recruiters, and pinpoint possible trends in technical communications
