Abstract :
Summary form only given. An excitation of coherent optical amplification and oscillation by separate uncorrelated pump sources is of particular practical importance. It has been pointed out that such an excitation is possible for parametric interactions when a single signal wave is coupled to a set of pump waves through a corresponding set of idler waves. The cumulative driving of a single signal mode by randomly phased pump modes in an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) was observed. This feature of parametric interaction also takes place in the parametric oscillators and amplifiers pumped by several intersecting beams of the same frequency or by conical beam. We present results of an investigation of the parametric superfluorescence excited in a single-pass optical parametric generator (OPG) pumped by two intersecting beams of substantially different frequencies. Experimentally parametric superfluorescence was investigated in the KH/sub 2/PO/sub 4/ crystal simultaneously pumped by the 2nd and 3rd harmonics of a subnanosecond Nd:YAG laser.
