Abstract :
The theory of the band spectrum for the electromagnetic waves propagating in one-dimensional periodic structures formed by two recurring layers of two different materials (dielectric, semiconductor and ferrite) is constructed. The numerical investigations of electromagnetic wave properties are realized. The structures dielectric-dielectric, dielectric-semiconductor, dielectric-semiconductor in a magnetic field, and ferrite-ferrite are considered. It is shown that the dispersion equations for all investigated problems have general outlines. In such case we can compare the structures from the physical point of view. One of the most important properties is the possibility of the band structure control by the external magnetic field. The results of the work show that such materials can be used in practice for the wide spectrum of frequencies from the units of GHz to hundreds of terahertz as filters, mirror coverings, polarization changers, etc.
