Abstract :
The paper reviewed hydrogen production biotechnology on theoretical and scientific aspects in our lab. Fermentative process is better for hydrogen production than photosynthetic process. The fermentative process, ecology of the activated sludge system, bacteriology of anaerobes, engineering control, reactor design, and fundamental research have made a great progress. At present, the demonstration factory of fermentative biohydrogen production will put into production. Biohydrogen production technology by fermentation uses biomass as raw materials to produce the renewable hydrogen energy. We discussesed the characteristics of biohydrogen system; focused on bioaugmentation of biohydrogen producing reactor, including selection of HPB (hydrogen-producing bacterial) with high yield and high evolution rate, choice of high efficient HPB species, hydraulic retention time (HRT), choice of bioaugmentation time, feeding mode of HPB, the amount of HPB to be added, retained amount of HPB.
