In this study, the effects of weathering on the aliphatics of a refined product, diesel oil, were thoroughly investigated using GC/FID and GC/MS. The detailed data of n-alkanes in the diesel oil at various degrees of evaporation (0~43.8%) were obtained. For further quantitative analysis, the concentration changes of n-alkanes in the evaporated diesel oil were compared on the same basis. The results show that volume reduction of sample caused by evaporation makes the loss rate of volatile low molecular-weight aliphatic components playing down, and simultaneously, makes the concentration of aliphatics (>;C16), which is indeed little affected by single evaporation, slightly increasing. This conclusion is confirmated using a mathematical equation which has been reported in the classical literature.
