Abstract
This paper aims to develop a simplified control of the series active power filter (SAF) and to implement it in laboratory for voltage conditioning in a power system. The active filter consists of a three-phase PWM inverter, an LC low-pass filter and a three-phase coupling transformer so that it is coupled in series with the electric system formed by the source and the load sensitive to disturbances. This way, this controlled voltage source injects the compensation voltage needed to mitigate voltage sags and total harmonic distortion into the utility. The reference for the active filter is generated using the Matlab software, implementing the control strategy using block diagrams provided by an interactive tool for modelling, simulation, and dynamic analysis of systems called Simulink (mainly the toolbox power system blockset). With the use of the Simulink and the ControlDesk, a platform containing the series active filter is developed in a real-time application using a DSP controller board from dSPACEreg called DSl 104
