  • Abstract
The authors report their attempt at building a highly concurrently connection management platform in the OMNI (Open Multimedia Networking Initiative). Connection set up and release are one of the most frequent signalling activities in the network. In order to handle the growth of connection volume and service types, it is important to design a signalling platform that explores concurrency, allows different control algorithms to be implemented, and to make it easy to redistribute control intelligence. Based on these principles, they developed a connection management platform and quantified their benefits. They have implemented three different connection set up algorithms to study different design alternatives of the platform. In addition, they compared the performance and scalability of these three algorithms
