Abstract :
Passive Optical Networks are the right choice to satisfy increasing demand for bandwidth by residential and businesses alike, and because of their cost factor as compared to networks with active components, they are potential candidates for realization of Fiber To The Home(FTTH) connectivity. Such networks can satisfy triple play requirement for data, audio, and video where future users expected to be more dependant on such connectivity in day to day transaction including banking, telecommuting, in addition to entertainment services. When used for multimedia delivery, a concern to service provider is the theft of services that account for lost revenue. In this paper, a scheme for providing protection against theft of services of IP over LAN based multimedia service is presented. Protection is provided to downstream traffic in passive optical networks via wavelength hopping and codes sequencing techniques that diffuse MPEG packets over several wavelengths.
