  • Abstract
A modified variability index (MVI) CFAR detector is presented. The MVI is a combination of the cell averaging (CA), greatest-of (GO), and modified trimmed mean (MTM). The analytic expression of its threshold multiplier factor TMTM is also derived. Under SwerllingII assumption, the MVI is evaluated and compared with the CA, OS, VI and OSVI (order statistic VI) through Monte-Carlo simulation in various environments. In homogeneous background and clutter edge environment, the MVI keeps the good performance of VI. In multiple targets background, the MVI performs robustly, which is similar to OS. In addition, the MVI shortens the sample sorting time of the OS and the OSVI.
