  • Abstract
The paper describes how the public domain technological developments in pulsed power supplies and electromagnetic hypervelocity macroparticle accelerators technology developed for mainly military applications could be used for commercial applications in advancing the technology for ultrafast industrial electromagnetic actuators. Such actuators implemented up to the stage of prototype manufacturing, represent key elements in fast, high-voltage circuit breakers; advanced switchgear elements; protective relaying in power and energy systems; in advanced robotics in manufacturing, industry; and fast-execution mechanisms in the last stages of control systems. The "system philosophy" must be applied, since the ultrafast actuators, requiring very large pulsed power (like their electromagnetic launcher counterparts), form a close system with their power supplies. Electromagnetic, transient, nonlinear codes developed for electromagnetic launchers must be used for the next generation of ultrafast actuators.
