Abstract
With consumer demand for more product sophistication and processing power in smaller form factors, effective power management strategies are becoming increasingly important in mobile and portable devices. Switching regulators are an integral component in most advanced battery powered systems and hence are well represented in this session. The first three papers investigate interesting directions for step down (buck) DC-DC converters relating to contemporary challenges of integration and efficiency, spectral behavior, and fast transient response. In addition to efficient power generation, bias techniques are also an important topic in the area of system power optimization; a paper is included which considers process compensation as a potential path to power reduction. Finally, because much of the mobile / portable electronics industry is powered by Li-Ion batteries, a paper is included which describes a scheme for charging time reduction through series resistance compensation.
