Abstract
In 1998 Whitehill Manufacturing supplied nylon rope for Chevron´s Pacific Area Lightering operations. In this service, ropes are subjected to large numbers of low-level (0-15%) tension-tension fatigue cycles. Used nylon ropes were tested periodically to monitor residual strength. Samples used for 150+ lightering operations (∼ 1 million cycles) retained greater than 90% of the new wet break strength. This report summarizes efforts to determine the remaining fatigue life of these ropes.
