Abstract :
This paper presents the field distribution in a lossy medium such as snowpack, sandy ground, or soil by boundary element method (BEM). For efficient detection of objects buried in lossy medium by an FM-CW radar, it is necessary to investigate the field distribution around the antenna and inside the medium. The purpose of the paper is to investigate how the radiated wave from a horn antenna aperture interacts with the interface of the air and medium, and how the field changes with the spacing between the aperture and the surface.
