Abstract :
This paper describes the challenges of delivering multicast IPTV services in terms of resource usage and user experiences, and proposes an approach to minimize the resources to be used while keeping the right quality of the services offered. The paper describes a generic network model to provide the IPTV services and states the problems this network faces to control bandwidth needs while user perceived quality is good enough. A solution is proposed, following an evolutionary approach from the existing approach to the optimal solution that is based on the integration of the transport and access networks with the IMS and the IPTV applications
