Abstract
As the next generation network architecture IMS has been widely accepted. Its good scalability, extensibility and manageability are appreciated for multimedia communications. However, some type of resource consuming services, such as video on demand and live video service often requires a lot of resources like bandwidth and streaming media server. But only relying on media server is difficult to meet large scale business needs. In this paper, we propose a BGP-based (Border Gateway Protocol) topology-aware overlay network for IMS. OSF (Overlay Service Function) entity is presented in IMS core network which realize the application layer traffic optimization. BGP-based network distance measurement algorithm is also simulated in paper. The design complies with requirements of the IMS QoS. It can reduce the IMS inter-domain communication effectively, improve the system resource utilization and provide a new approach for IMS multimedia services.
