Abstract
A feedforward (FF) syllabic compander that improves speech quality in communication channels by suppressing noise caused by fading in radio channels and thermal noise in transmission facilities is described. The FF compander eliminates the feedback loop of a general syllabic compander without any loss in generalities by using the root operator and FIR filter in the envelope detector. The FF compander´s transient response is improved by shortening the FIR filter length. Simulations of the FF compander are discussed
