Abstract
This paper deals with the analysis of leakage current characteristics of polymeric insulator due to pollution under wet conditions and also Dynamic model is developed to predict the pre-flashover leakage current of polymeric insulators. The Dynamic arc model presented here which takes into account multiple arc series with pollution resistance and time variation of arc resistance, arc length. In this work, the laboratory based pollution performance tests were carried out on 11kV polymeric insulator under AC voltage at different pollution levels with sodium chloride as a contaminant. For validate the developed model, Leakage current waveforms during the experimental studies were measured. Reported results of this preliminary study on 11kV polymeric insulator shows that the pre-flashover leakage current can be easily predict by the developed dynamic arc model.
