Abstract
This paper evaluated the social service value of wetlands in 2007, in Beijing, China. Remote sensing and GIS technologies were applied to perform data preparation and processing in combination with extensive field work. The social services of wetland include water supply, recreational opportunity, and raw material supply. The results showed that significant values come from water supply, which was consistent with the total large volume of many reservoirs in Beijing. And the large population significantly affected the value of recreational opportunity. Then, raising awareness of wetland value should be paid more attention urgently for the purpose of wetland protection in the study area.
