Abstract
We investigate the electric point dipole impulse excitation of electromagnetic waves and their propagation in a homogeneous conducting dielectric medium. The electromagnetic fields from an electric point dipole have been derived in terms of an infinite series. The electric fields which follow immediately the impulsive wavefront can be considered as the discharge of a static dipole excitation plus a slow decay field, described by the series terms which peak with a delay. The zero-th order term in the asymptotic expansion is consistent with results obtained by Song and Chen (IEEE Trans. Antennas Prop., vol.AP-4, no.10, p.1414-1421, 1993).
