Abstract
The conventional iterated block matching fractal encoder/decoder is computationally intensive. The decoder converges slowly after many iterations. In this work, the encoder is improved leading to a higher compression ratio, and the image convergence is improved to achieve a similar result to a low pass image after one iteration at the decoder. In two more iterations, the decoder converges to a good quality image of PSNR=31, for a 512×512 Lena. The decoder is less computationally intensive as compared to the conventional method.
