Abstract
Fast partial discharge pulse data are compared with calculated results in a continuation of previous work that attempted to model the discharge phenomenon inside enclosed cylindrical cavities. It is shown that with the present electrode arrangement, the process in the enclosed cavities is a streamer. The classical capacitor model, the recent Pedersen model, and Paschen´s law onset results are compared to the data. The preliminary thermal model is also considered. Pedersen´s model gives results closer to experimental data then the simplistic capacitor model. The streamer model corresponds with Paschen´s onset expression over a limited range, although there is no deterministic relation
