Abstract
In the development of sophisticated systems for plant floor management, user-supplier partnering provides business, product and service benefits. In this paper, the authors discuss the lessons learned from partnering with many semiconductor and electronics manufacturing companies during recent years. Strategic partnering in CIM usually, though not necessarily, includes the development of new software. Users of CIM products and services today almost always prefer open, industry standard software products, as opposed to proprietary ones. So this paper focuses on the issues associated with standards-based new product development among two or more partners
