Abstract
A system for reporting forced outages of distribution systems is described. Seven major component categories are used for this purpose, each of which is further divided into classes. This classification system provides the means for recording the forced outages of major components by type. Each forced outage is ascribed a primary cause and, in addition, each major component is assigned a list of subcomponents in order to identify which part of the major component was the cause of the outage or was damaged as a result. From these data, forced outage statistics can be calculated and an appraisal of the reliability of each type of major component can be made
