Abstract
We present a study of different geolocation updating schemes for location aware service provisioning and analyze ways for their optimization. We propose a hybrid periodic/predictive updating method, in which adaptive update intervals derived from the geolocation information received from the mobile are used for MSs with a dominant direction of movement. An algorithm for detecting MSs with a dominant direction of movement is proposed. This geolocation update scheme reduces the signaling load by a factor of two, and opens the way for optimal geolocation updating
