Abstract :
Studies concerned with the harmonic voltage profile calculation of an electric power system are reported. An iterative method is used for computing the harmonic voltage profile. The method is based on frequency-domain analysis in conjunction with fundamental load flow computations. The advantage of the iterative method is that it obtains a realistic harmonic voltage profile without the need for field measurements. Such a method is helpful in the planning of a power system or extension of an existing power system. The model of transmission lines used specifically lends itself to the determination of voltage profile on a long transmission line. The important concepts of conventional reactive power and distortion power are incorporated in order to determine interaction between the power system and harmonic generating sources. A reduced power transmission network of SaskPower is analyzed to illustrate the use of the algorithm
