Abstract
The investigations deals with the numerical calculation of flow and stress in a human carotid bifurcation model where atherosclerotic lesions frequently occur. The primary aim of this study is the analysis of the influence of the distensibility characteristics on the pulsatile flow field and on the wall shear stress distribution during the pulse cycle. Furthermore the paths of specified fluid particles are demonstrated by numerical flow visualization.
