Abstract :
This paper describes a productized software defined radio (SDR) and highlights the growth path strategy for supporting SCA compliance, wideband waveforms and networking capability. Software defined radios hold the promise for cost-effective, field upgradable, multi-mode, multi-band and multi-function communications systems. This paper provides a case- in- point study report of how SDR systems based on an open architecture can support rapid technology insertion into fielded units with reasonable effort. Significant architectural changes are being accomplished in months, not years, using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and software components, clearly demonstrating the value of SDR technology. This paper demonstrates insertion of SCA compliant core framework, transition from legacy signals to wideband networked operation (OFDM), and interoperation of legacy systems with COTS routers and protocols
