Abstract
Design of a novel planar antenna, which is based on a combination of a dipole and a loop that provides a cardioid radiation pattern in two planes and therefore a hemispherical coverage, is proposed. The dipole-loop antenna with hemispherical radiation pattern and doubled gain as compared with conventional omni-directional antennas could be promising for wireless and mobile communications applications as it could reduce signal fading, lower energy consumption by the phone transmitter and decrease harmful influence of microwave electromagnetic field on phone user.
