Abstract
The paper introduces a new type of 2D resonant cavity type LWA. The antenna is formed from a two metamaterial surfaces (MGP and PRS) which are placed in direct contact. Eliminating the air cavity reduces the thickness of the structure whilst also simplifying fabrication and assembly. Two antenna designs are presented. The first antenna has a cavity height of lambda/7 (at 3.65 GHz). It is fed by a microstrip patch and yields 14.87 dBi of boresight gain at 3.65 GHz. The second design has a cavity height of lambda0/19.9 (at 3.65GHz) and yields 19.89 dBi of peak directivity at 3.71 GHz.
