Abstract :
A novel companding transform scheme, which compresses large signals while enhancing small signals, is proposed to effectively reduce peak-average-power-ratio (PAPR) of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals. The proposed method has a low implementation complexity while achieving a significant reduction of PAPR. For validating the method, linear piecewise linear, nonlinear-symmetrical and nonlinear-quasi-symmetrical companding transform schemes are studied. It is shown by computer simulations that the proposed method can outperform the well-known clipping-filtering scheme substantially
