Abstract
The OPC is a technical specification that defines a set of standard industrial software interfaces based upon Microsoft´s OLE/COM technology. The application of the OPC specification makes possible data exchange and interoperability between field systems/devices, automation/control systems and manufacture management software. This paper provides an overview of the OPC Specification. It describes the basic concepts and advantages of the OPC technology and introduces the latest developments of the OPC technology including OPC-DX (OPC eXchage) and OPC-XML.
