  • Abstract
    A new instrument, the SCanning Ozone Radiometer (SCOR), to measure ozone profiles throughout the entire atmosphere is currently under development at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This passive millimeter-wave instrument will detect ozone near the 110 GHz ozone line (and may be extended to another channel near the 142 GHz line). The bandwidth is 18 GHz wide and is centered near the ozone line center. The instrument will scan 360° through elevation at a rate of about 15 rpm with the downward looks viewing hot and cold loads. A chopper mirror may be included if more frequent calibration is needed. With the inclusion of a front-end low-noise amplifier and the wide bandwidth it is planned to retrieve tropospheric ozone abundances in addition to stratospheric profiles
