Abstract :
We propose a space and time redundant broadband packet switch that uses both types of redundancies to achieve low packet loss rate and cell delay at a reasonable cost. Space redundancy is provided by using d-dilated Banyan network and time redundancy is provided using multiple passes. Simulation results are provided for a Banyan based ATM switch that employs space redundancy, time redundancy, and both space and time redundancies. The comparison metrics used are packet loss rate and average cell delay. Simulation results indicate that for a moderately loaded network, the packet loss rate significantly improves when both redundancies are used with a small increase in average cell delay. The improvements are larger for lower values of d
