Abstract
An important step in most techniques for video segmentation is the merging of regions having similar motion. We propose a new motion based similarity measure between regions that explicitly incorporates uncertainty in the estimation of motion parameters. A new hierarchical merging algorithm using this measure is developed. The robustness of the proposed algorithm has been confirmed by experiments on both artificial and real data. A comparative analysis showed improved performance over other methods
