Abstract :
System-level design considerations are described that are necessary for extracting useful signal preprocessing functions from sparsely-interconnected photodetector arrays. Particular emphasis is placed upon the monolithic implementation of such neural networks with focal plane imaging arrays. The most promising fabrication technologies and system architectures are described for a number of neural network implementations
